Agriculture

The agriculture programme seeks to revolutionize research, development and training in the quest for improved food security.  The programme exposes learners to the production of crops and livestock for food, feed, fibre and fuel, thereby transitioning from the biological sciences to the applied areas. The programme provides technical training for hands-on operation of a number of farm enterprises.

Students pursuing the agriculture programme complete multi-disciplinary areas in:

  • Crop & Livestock Production
  • Plant Protection & Animal Health
  • Soil & Water Management
  • Agribusiness & Entrepreneurship

Farm Skills in which students are exposed to practical training to develop competencies in the above core areas.

Other areas include: Post-Harvest Management, Aquaponics, Genetics, Extension and Communication in support of agricultural and related advisory services.

DIRECTED STUDY

There is also a compulsory project chosen by each student. This allows students to acquire basic techniques in research methods in an area of their interest. Topics include abstract, literature review, methodology and evaluation of research findings.

INTERNSHIP

Each student is required to complete a six (6) week internship programme at an agricultural related farm/agricultural related business in their island of residence. The programme provides technical training for operations in a number farm enterprises.
