Classes began May 3rd, 2021.

No it is not too late! Students can register beyond the start date of May 3rd, 2021 and working at their own pace still complete all the requirements of the 7-week course and receive a certificate at the end. 

Students who register late will have access to all lectures they may have missed. All course work will be uploaded to the website so students can engage in self-paced revision. 

Once students have registered, they will also be able to join all upcoming live lectures scheduled beyond the point of their date of registration.

Students are fully responsible for the completion of ALL assignments and coursework required to receive a certificate at the end of the 7-weeks.

No, there is no fee for late registration.

After successfully completing seven (7) weeks of this program, you will receive your certification.

You will have six (6) course contact hours each week. There will be three (3), two (2) hour sessions each week held on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 12pm – 2pm.

Course content will be delivered interchangeably between zoom, PowerPoint presentations and pre-recorded video uploads. Mondays and Fridays are allotted for zoom lectures and Wednesdays for pre-recorded/PowerPoint presentations. During each zoom session, there will be a Q&A for all topics covered throughout the week.

Yes. You are allowed to ask as many relevant questions as you wish via discussion board or email.

As this course is blended between theory and practical skills, you will need the following:

  • A notebook and pen, or an alternative to record lecture notes
  • Access to a computer / mobile device with a webcam / camera
  • Microsoft word and Microsoft PowerPoint
  • Garden space
  • Gardening gloves
  • Small garden pruning shears / clippers
  • Source of water – Water hose / watering can
  • Shovel
  • Hand trowel/ hand spade
  • Grafting knife
  • Seedling starter tray
  • 4, 3L or 5L Plant pots
  • Rooting hormones
  • Potting soil – number of bags will depend on garden space
  • Compost / Manure – number of bags will depend on garden space
  • Seeds – Two (2) or more packets of seeds. They can be purchased from any gardening store or the exchange (located on Potter’s Cay Dock). Those who may want to order seeds online, may do so at johnnyseeds.com or seedway.com. It is important that you purchase seeds that are to be planted during summer months (okra, beans/peas, hot peppers, sunflowers, zucchini, eggplant, basil, Malabar spinach, squash, corn, sweet potato slips, garlic cloves, watermelon etc). Seed selection is solely up to you!

If you have alternative items to replace some of the items listed above and it does the job just the same, feel free to use them.

This training course was designed with learning flexibility in mind. Beginners with little to no experience in backyard gardening, to those with already existing gardens can benefit from all course content. It is recommended that you be familiar with Microsoft Word and PowerPoint before enrolling in this course.

You shouldn’t! Lessons are easy to understand and contain lots of visuals to assist with important points of discussion.

FEE REFUND POLICY:
Refund of fees will be made as outlined in the table below upon official withdrawal of a student from a programme of study at BAMSI, or the dropping of courses in the non-subsidized programme, or under other applicable circumstances:

  • To be official, withdrawal or dropping of courses must be in writing and submitted to the Registrar.
  • The date on which the withdrawal request is received by the Registrar will be used for computing any refund.
  • ‘Days of classes’ are days on which classes are scheduled.
  • No refunds of registration, administration and other fees expressly stated as being non-refundable.
  • If you are expelled or suspended, you will not be entitled to any refund of fees.
