BAMSI SIGNS MOU WITH MINISTRIES OF AGRICULTURE AND EDUCATION FOR THE CADET PROGRAM
The Bahamas Agriculture & Marine Science Institute (BAMSI) joined with the Ministry of Agriculture and Marine Resources and the Ministry of Education & Technical & Vocational Training in signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to launch the Agriculture and Marine Cadet program in April 2025.
The programme is expected to be a catalyst in advancing the fight for food security by empowering young Bahamians and equipping them to be innovators and leaders in the agriculture and marine sector.
Geared towards senior high students, the A&M Cadet programme is expected to achieve a number of objectives:
1. Enhance the existing Agricultural Science curriculum, introducing students to innovative agricultural techniques and fostering partnerships with industry stakeholders.
2. Allow participants to earn industry-recognized certifications and post-secondary credits through BAMSI.
3. Develop leadership skills through various initiatives and community projects. Students will also develop essential skills such as teamwork, problem solving and critical thinking while addressing local agricultural and marine challenges.
4. Encourage students to participate in community service, fostering a spirit of giving back and working collaboratively to enhance local environments; and
5. Introduce students to diverse career opportunities available in agriculture and marine sciences to inspire them to pursue further education through BAMSI and ultimately contribute to the sustainability and prosperity of the nation.
Among the officials present was the Hon. Jomo Campbell, Minister of Agriculture and Marine Resources, the Hon. Glenys Hanna-Martin, Minister of Education & Technical & Vocational Training, BAMSI Chairman Tyrone Fowler and President of BAMSI Dr. Raveenia Roberts-Hanna.
Also on hand were senior members of the respective ministries including Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture, Neil Campbell; Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Lorraine Armbrister; Undersecretary, Ministry of Agriculture, Montez Williams; Director, Ministry of Education, Dominique McCartney-Russell; and Senior Education Officer, Career and Technical Education with Responsibility for Agricultural Science, Patrice Green.
